Tax Allowance for relocatable partitioning to change in 2012 Thursday, 19th January 2012
According to recent reports the Annual Investment Allowance which currently offers businesses 100 per cent tax relief on the first £100,000 of qualifying expenditure, including relocatable partitioning, will be changed in April to just £25,000.
Tax relief for relocatable partitioning has been allowable since 1958. From April 6 2010 the terms were updated with the new Annual Investment Allowance (AIA) providing 100% relief on the first £100,000 of qualifying expenditure and then 20% above. Prime Chartered Accountants for the Association of Interior Specialists (AIS) cited partitioning that was intended to be movable qualifies as plant and machinery, and is therefore eligible for this allowance, and not seen as part of the building where no tax relief is available.
Malcolm Stamper at SAS International commented: “In light of this news we would urge businesses to consider refurbishment sooner rather than later to benefit from the current terms.”
Ensuring that new premises are flexible enough to allow for changing business requirements is a core consideration in today’s commercial environment.
Relocatable partitioning is ideal to help create private meeting rooms, a reception area or maximise usable space to incorporate a new or separate department into an existing floor. SAS International has a number of relocatable and removable solutions, such as System 8000 and the innovative C-Joint, which provides options to create both aesthetic and flexible interiors.

SAS Direct HQ celebrates its one year anniversary Tuesday, 8th November 2011
After a phenomenal year of growth SAS Direct celebrates its one year anniversary since the opening of its Reading HQ in November 2010.
Bucking the trend, SAS Direct has taken several bold and ambitious steps to expand its business at a time when the construction sector has seen a downturn in activity. In the last year, the company has increased its number of depots across the UK from three to five, expanded and strengthened its existing facilities and increased its product offering, with further plans to open more depots in the near future.
The expansion has been driven by SAS Direct’s emphasis on product innovation, flexibility and accessibility. In the last year new interior fit-out solutions have been launched such as the innovative Emac Hanger, a cost-effective alternative to galvanised angle and wire, and Horizon, a new range of mineral fibre suspended ceiling systems; products designed to meet demand and exceed expectations.
Accordingly, SAS Direct made several new key appointments, from a national operations manager to new depot managers, not to mention a significant increase in the number of employees throughout the company.
“It’s been an extraordinary year for us” comments Paul Golden, Managing Director at SAS Direct. “To expand so rapidly at such a challenging time for the interior fit out and construction industry is a great achievement and it doesn’t stop there; we have plans for further expansion and aim to keep the momentum going throughout 2012 and beyond.

Championship Winners - Team SAS/Redline Racing win the Porsche Carrera Cup GB Monday, 17th October 2011
Congratulations to everyone at Team SAS/Redline Racing who finished the season on a championship high. The final weekend of racing at Silverstone saw SAS/Redline Racing win both the constructor and the driver titles of the Porsche Carrera Cup.
SAS/Redline driver James Sutton drove brilliantly finishing second in both the weekend’s races and clinching the driver’s title ahead of team mate Michael Meadows.
For Sutton, the overall title was a massive achievement. “It’s not really sunk in yet,” said Sutton. “The race was very difficult and over the early laps the pressure from Michael was intense.”
Meadows’ title hopes were dashed in the final race after a front tyre puncture, but after a season of consistently good performances Meadows finished second in the overall standings. As a result SAS/Redline also earned the team of the weekend award.
The Cleveland-based team has contested the Carrera Cup GB since the championship started in 2003 and has always finished in the top three of the teams’ contest, previously winning the title in 2004, 2007 and 2009. Redline Racing is the most successful team in the nine-year history of the Carrera Cup GB with 66 wins from 179 races to date.
Team boss Simon Leonard paid tribute to his entire team at the conclusion of a season that included 37 finishes from 38 starts for the two SAS-backed cars, scoring five wins and 20 podiums.
“It’s a fantastic achievement for the whole team,” said Leonard. “It is what we’ve worked for all year and the boys have done a fantastic job… James and Michael have driven superbly. Without the support and backing of SAS none of this would be possible. We wanted to win both the drivers’ and teams’ championships and it all came together very well.”
SAS Direct answers glazing demand for open and transparent workspaces Monday, 10th October 2011
Recent figures from SAS Direct has shown a 21 percent increase in the demand for its fully glazed partitioning systems for the commercial environment. This has led the company to expand its glass and glazing services nationwide, which includes a new glass service at their Birmingham Depot.
In addition to increasing the number of glazing team employees, SAS Direct has also invested in staff training to further enhance the quality of service they provide their customers.
The demand is being driven in part due to the growing trend towards open and transparent working environments. As a result fully glazed glass partitioning systems are sought after, whilst providing required acoustic performance.
SAS Direct’s dedicated glass and glazing teams install all glass for their fully glazed partitioning systems, provide system guarantees and ensure installation standards. Once head and base tracks are fitted on-site, an SAS Direct glass surveyor visits the project and ensures accurate measurements are taken for both glass and any integral blinds, if required.
Standard glass, toughened or laminated, is available through SAS Direct as well as fire/specialist glass, subject to specification. The glass teams are also able to offer a range of bespoke glass services to meet project requirements.
SAS Direct Depots provide local contractors with a full SAS glazing product portfolio, with guaranteed next day delivery and complete project installation.
Michael Meadows retains the lead in the Carrera Cup GB championship after a solid performance at Brands Hatch Wednesday, 5th October 2011
SAS/Redline Racing’s Michael Meadows put in another consistent performance at Brands Hatch to keep hold of first place after the penultimate weekend of racing in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB championship.
Nick Tandy (Nationwide/Motorbase) raced to victory in round 16 of the Carrera Cup as Meadows’ SAS/Redline Racing team mate, James Sutton, lead a determined chase in second place, with fellow title contenders Stephen Jelley and Michael Meadows finishing third and fourth.
In round 17, Stephen Jelley (Parker with Juta) swept to victory while Meadows defended second place from Hankey and finished just a third of a second in front of him, with Sutton finishing in fifth.
The result meant that Meadows retained top spot in the league to set up an incredibly close championship showdown with Jelley and Sutton over the final two races at Silverstone later this month.
Sutton currently stands on 270 points, two points behind Jelley on 272 and 12 points behind Meadows who leads the championship with 282 points.
The season finale is at Silverstone on October 15th and 16th.
SAS Direct launches new glass door drop seal to improve acoustics Thursday, 29th September 2011

Acoustic performance is a key consideration in today’s commercial working environment, which is why SAS Direct has launched its new glass door drop seal.
An independent test proved that by using the drop door seal on a glass partitioning door increased dB from 23dB to 32dB, resulting in a significant reduction of unwanted noise.
The test was carried out on SAS International’s System 8000 Slimline door frame. To obtain maximum acoustic performance the drop seal should be used in conjunction with an aluminium threshold plate.
This development follows on from The Association of Interior Specialists recent ‘Guide to Office Acoustics’ to promote best practice in the design and installation of acoustic solutions in offices.
Team SAS/Redline Racing in top spot after Rockingham Monday, 19th September 2011
Michael Meadows and James Sutton of Team SAS/Redline Racing hold first and second positions respectively in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB league after a solid performance at Rockingham.
Euan Hankey (Parker with Juta) had an excellent weekend with two wins to narrow the gap with the leaders, but Meadows and Sutton who finished in the top four in both races did enough to retain the championship lead.
In round 15 Hankey was pushed to the limit by Sutton as they raced neck and neck for much of the race. “What a day,” said an elated Hankey. “Massive hats off to James; that’s probably one of the hardest races I’ve ever had.”
Sutton had pressured Hankey right to the end and finished just three-tenths of a second behind. “All the work was done at the start,” said Sutton. “Euan drove a very smart race and it was always going to be difficult but I thought I might get him in the traffic.”
As it stands Meadows has 250 points, Sutton has 240, Stephen Jelley (Parker with Juta) has 236 with Hankey on 215. Team SAS/Redline Racing lead the constructors’ table with 490 points. The next race is at Brands Hatch in Kent on October 2.

In an action-packed race Meadows (SAS/Redline) converted his pole position into a first corner lead and assumed control as Hankey tracked him and Sutton settled into third.
“It was good to have a relatively clean race,” said race winner Meadows. “Apart from the safety car there wasn’t too much trouble.” There was late drama in the closing laps as Sutton put real pressure on Hankey, but Hankey did well to maintain second place.
Meadows finished second in the round 13 race at Knockhill, with Sutton finishing fourth. The combined results have put Meadows at the top of the championship with 217 points, but Hankey trails by just 9 points (208) with Meadows’ team mate Sutton just another 3 points behind Hankey at 205 points.

Tax relief for relocatable partitioning: a cost-effective choice for businesses Friday, 29th July 2011
Movable partitions are gaining an increasing amount of interest not only because of the need to maximise usable and available workspace; they may also qualify for tax allowances with updated qualifying standards that came into effect in 2010.
Ensuring that new premises are flexible enough to allow for changing business requirements is a core consideration in today’s commercial environment. This is particularly important in private property where the value and cost of office premises and space efficiencies are critical business decisions for tenants, particularly those wanting to secure longer-term options.
Tax relief for relocatable partitioning has been allowable since 1958, but since the 6th of April 2010 the terms have been updated. The new Annual Investment Allowance provides 100% relief on the first £100,000 of qualifying expenditure and then 20% above. Prime Chartered Accountants for the Association of Interior Specialists has cited that partitioning intended to be movable qualifies as plant and machinery, and is therefore eligible for this allowance.
Relocatable partitioning is ideal to help create private meeting rooms, a reception area or maximise usable space to incorporate a new or separate department into an existing floor. The additional benefit of tax relief means that it is increasingly being recognised by businesses as a cost effective choice.
SAS Direct supplies a number of relocatable and removable solutions including square and radiused edged systems providing up to 30 minutes fire performance and an acoustic performance of 48dB.

SAS International launches XP frame Tuesday, 22nd June 2010
SAS International has launched the XP frame, a new range of expandable depth aluminium door and window frames that can be installed swiftly into either plasterboard partitions or masonry walls between 74mm and 225mm thick.
The XP frame provides contractor’s with a price competitive product which is quick and easy to install. It can be purchased direct from the manufacturer at SAS Direct Depots throughout the UK.
All XP door and window frames are supplied as fully finished pre-assembled kits for rapid on-site fitting. Once unpacked, the frames can be installed within 20 minutes for a professional and neat finish.
When fitting door and window frames, wall systems can vary in width and plasterboard can vary significantly in thickness. With this in mind, the innovative manufacturer developed fully depth adjustable frames which are not reliant on set wall thickness or perfect square openings. Both the door and window frames can provide up to 60 minutes fire resistance.
Door frames are supplied as door sets, complete with a SAS-veneered door and factory-fitted, non-protruding ironmongery. Whilst window frames are supplied with the appropriate rated glass, direct from the factory, reducing on-site installation time.
The frames separate into an inner and outerframe: the inner frame is fitted from one side of an opening and the outer frame slides over, pulling tight against the other side. This eliminates tolerances or differences in wall construction methods. Once the two parts are fitted, architraves, door stops or glazing beads are clipped into place.
To meet the varying wall thicknesses, two different sized XP frames are available with either rounded or square profiles; Standard, for wall thicknesses between 74mm and 123mm or Jumbo, for wall thicknesses between 118mm and 225mm.
XP frames suit both 44mm and 54mm standard and bespoke door leaf sizes and are available from stock to suit 2,040mmx 926mm leaves in RAL 9006 and RAL 9010. Bespoke door and window frames sizes or other RAL colours can be manufactured in approximately two weeks.
